Tripod

    Ray, when I upgraded my Bogen tripod from a pan head to a ball head, all I had to do was take out three screws on the bottom of the plate. the new head then jsut went back on the same way as the pan head.
    My head came with both sizes of bushings or threads, but the whole process took about ten minutes!

    Here is the tripod with the new head attached, the silver plate under the head is the top of the tripod legs.
    The second pic is the bottom of the old head. the three screws under the head are set screws. the head simply threads on to that silver plate with one threaded stud.

    ray i do not know what part it is, i actually scavenged the bushing out of my monopod mount, since i really never use the mono anynmore
    but it was a reducing bushing, just not sure what to what, guess would be 7/16 to 3/8, but you should be able to take the grip and pod to a hardware store find 2 threaded studs that fit, and that's the two bushing ends needed then go to b&h, they have a whole page of various bushing sizes

    i think it's 3/8" to 1/4" reduction bushing. as low as 1.95 at b&h.

    Gary,

    Tim helped me figure out what sized bushing we would need and ordered it from B&H with my tripod order. It's scheduled to get here on 6/18!

    Hey, I ended up getting an Ultra LUXiSF for a belated Father's Day present today!

    And a Lumiquest Softbox for my future Sb-800/900, whichever it ends up being.

    I've been using a Sunpak Travellite that I got for $14 after a friend's employee discount at Best Buy. I got it prior to my DSLR days, so its stability (lack thereof) wasn't an issue. I used it with my D40 this past trip, but I really didn't feel that comfortable with it on there. Folded size was a big reason why I got the Travellite, since it was collapses to about 14".

    I'm reading about the UltraLUXif right now...

    Are you guys using the Luxi SF or the Luxi M (or something different totally)? I like the Luxi SF, but I wonder if I am going to miss the extra height (it's maximum is only 47.6"). The Luxi M's maximum height is 60". I'm not sure that it really matters, though.

    The Ultra LuxifSF cannot be only 47" high. I'm 63" tall and when fully extended the camera is a good foor above my eye-level

    There is a Luxi F and a Luxi SF, are you sure you have the Luxi SF? I'm not sure what tripod everyone here has, because the line of Velbon tripods is called the Luxi with different models (M, F, SF, etc), but everyone here has been calling it the "Luxif".

    It looks like the Ultra Luxi-F is no longer available. ; It is now the Ultra Luxi-L and Ultra Luxi-M. ; Does anyone know what the difference is between the two because it looks like the same item to me. ; Any help is appreciated as I want to buy a better traveling tripod before my trip in October.

    My bet is that one replaced the Luxi SF and one replaced the Luxi F (this is more than a bet, I found this to be the case when I was trying to find my Luxi F). ; That means one will max out in height at around 47.6" and the other will max out at 61". ;

    I purchased the Luxi SF before finally finding the Luxi F on eBay, and the size made a HUGE difference when shooting at the world. ; Don't get the SF unless you want shots like this...

    I assume you are talking about all the heads at the bottom of the photo (in regards to the height of the Tripod)...
