Post your photos from the Oasis section of Animal Kingdom in this thread. This would include the front entrance of the park as well!

Roseated spoonbill right as you walk into the park, straight ahead:

Dragons were an integral part of the theming when Animal Kingdom opened, in anticipation of Beastly Kingdom. Now, of course, we're getting stuck with a beastly kingdom in the form of Avatarland.

You know I wondered about that recently too - are they going to change that entrance carving so that there's one of the blue things instead of the dragon? (I forgot the name of the blue things).

I assume you mean the flying blue things and not the humanoid blue things. :D

Thanks to the Avatar Wiki, I can tell you that most of the flying dragons are mountain banshees, but the big one that the human's avatar captures is a great leonopteryx. Oh, and the humanoid blue things are the Na'vi. I guess we'll all need to study that Wiki when the land of the floating rocks opens up.

Pardon the crude photoshop of your image Dennis, but it does not look like they would have to change much of the Dragon to get the Leonopteryx...[IMG]

Ah - Na'vi is what I was thinking of - the humanoids. But good point that the dragon-type leonopteryx they ride on could actually be used, which indeed would be much easier to adapt.

It would make more sense with the Leonopteryx as you have animal heads for the other lands. If you had Asian, African and Caveman faces on the sign then the Na'vi would work.

According to Celebrations magazine, the flying attraction will feature Banshees, so I guess that would be more appropriate. Regardless, I'd just as soon they not change this dragon.

From what I can tell, the Leonopteryx are Banshees... I think it would be equivalent to us calling dogs "Barkies"... But I suppose it's getting to technical into the names and we all know which creatures we are talking about.

I won't argue Pandoran wildlife classifications with you. But I will point out that the Creative Commons license on my photos explicitly prohibits unauthorized modifications. I'm afraid I'll have to charge you a license fee, payable as one beer at the River Roost Lounge on October 19. :)

I think that's an acceptable fine... What if I crop out your watermark at the bottom and repost? That's how it's usually gone, right?

Believe it or not, I've actually had that happen to one of my photos.

    dpreview.com is famous for that...
I've had my photos used a chapter cards for podcasts in the past where the podcaster dropped his logo right on top of my watermark. Not going to say which one, other than it deals with going inside the magic of the orlando attractions (it was years ago). He DID apologize and give me credit on his show when I pointed it out to him.

Great green macaw closeup...lots of people miss him and several other birds and reptiles, as they're in those cross trails that line between the two main entrance paths through the Oasis:
