For those of you in the midwest, Roberts Camera has put together a really nice deal for the Indianapolis Air Show on June 24. ; For $69 you get admission to the show, access to their private tent near show center, lunch, and, best of all, unlimited use of all kinds of Nikon and Canon gear.

For $25 they are offering a seminar with aviation photographer Jose M. Ramos. ; They haven't announced a date yet, but the one I attended two years ago was a week before the show.

The Roberts web site has details and ordering information.

If I lived in Indy, that would be an awesome deal!

You bet I'm going! I plan to try out some new lenses and enjoy the Thunderbirds.

I doubt they'd have it available, but can you imagine being able to try out a 600 on a D800? It'd be like climbing into the cockpits with the pilots!

That's an awesome deal. ; I miss the airshow the local chapter of the CAF used to put on in Frederick. ; They used to stage the aircraft over my parents house while they waited for their portion of the show.

Man, a 600 on a D800 would be sweet! ; There are always a few people with monster lenses on gimbals at these shows. ; I prefer to stick to 300 or less on my crop sensor D300 - it makes it a bit easier to keep the planes in frame.

The only bad thing about the Indy show is that the runway is too short for the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels. ; They fly in from the big airport on the other side of town when they perform. ; We always miss the show on the ground, which is almost as impressive as the one in the air.

Oh man, I hope the whole show isn't backlit like that!

Just got back from the airshow. ; It wasn't the best one they've had, but it was a great time. ; Jose Ramos shared some great tips which I will pass along later. ; The highlight was being admitted to the airport at 5:30 am for some sunrise shooting.

Nikon and Canon had a variety of equipment available for use. ; I tried out a D800 body, 200-400 f/4, 28-300 and 70-300 lenses. ; Watch for photos over the next couple of weeks.

Just a quick note for the curious: ; Raw files for the D800 came out in the 39-46 megabyte range, and that was with lossless compression turned on!

That last shot is phenomenal... ; And in that first photo, I think that the plane needs better seatbelts!
