Sony releases first cameras with new Exmor R CMOS sensors

    This Exmor R (R for rear) is their new patented CMOS sensor that has the digital connections on the bottom/rear of the sensor rather than on the top, in theory allowing for a greater sensitivity for light.

    Obviously Sony will be using these in their Alpha dSLRs, perhaps sooner rather than later. ; The other question is if they are going to share this technology with anybody....

    does it really matter where the sensor is connected with so much software available in the camera

    Yes, I think it does matter, since in theory, this sensor may blow ISO 25,600 out of the water. ; Or at least make ISO 800 usable with a P&S.
