A rainy Frontierland

This past January I didn't end up with too many Magic Kingdom photos, because it was the one day of my trip that rained (the first day)...it allowed us all morning until mid-afternoon to be dry, but with ugly grey light and warmer temps...then the cold front came through bringing heavy rain for an hour or two followed by quickly plunging temperatures (morning began at 78, and temp was 36 that night!). ; While sheltering from the rains that snuck up just as I got off Big Thunder Mountain...I ran to the old canoe loading queue building out along the river where there was shelter and soem rocking chairs, and waited out the downpour. ; I snuck off a shot of the rainy Frontierland scene from my rocking chair perch:

Note the brave Tom Sawyer folks all bundled in their ponchos escaping the island during the rain!

Just after the rain, I was able to secure a table outside Pecos Bill's pretty easily:

A little rainy walkaround shot of Town Hall in Frontierland:

The silver lining to the rainy day was that many didn't come to the parks, or bailed out during the rain. ; So when I decided to hit Pirates of the Caribbean...I walked through the entire queue without seeing a soul, right down to stepping on the boat. ; I also had a private boat through the ride, and when I got to the other end, stayed on board for another go-round, since noone was waiting! ; A few of the always-challenging POTC shots, using my Sigma 30mm F1.4 lens and ISO6400...

Never had that good of luck with these guys, but this one came out half-decent:

Nice Justin. ; One of my most memorable days in the parks was on a rainy day. ; We had a blast. ; Just because it rains doesn't mean you have to leave, but you know that being the park veteran that you are.

Very nice series. I don't know what it is, but I really enjoy the parks in the rain. Some of my favorite pics from our 2009 trip were taken on a rainy day.

Thanks all...I agree - I like the rainy days too. ; probably because it becomes less crowded, for one thing! ; But I like the wet sidewalks, the deeper colors, the quietness. ; It seems especially effective in Frontierland and Liberty Square, with the historic looking structures and atmosphere...Tomorrowland in the rain doesn't have the same effect for me.

That goes pretty well for anything I can think of...a rainy day, a hot day, a humid day, a smoky day, a crowded day - any of those at Disney are better than a good day most other places. ; :)
