A couple highlights:

15.08MP APS-C Sensor, Canon is claiming less noise than the 40D.
Face Detection AF in LiveView
Digic IV processor
New small RAWs: a 7mp sRAW and a 3.8mp sRAW
UDMA Support
6.3 fps
Improved 3" LCD (True VGA - 640x480x3, the 40D and Mk3 series had a approx. 320x240x3 3" LCD)
AF Lens Microadjustment (I see Canon finally put a "pro" item in their consumer camera)

theres a lens Id love to have. I do love my 55-250 but sometimes its tough to get the wider angle and changing lenses isnt always the easiest thing. Unfortunately I dont have 700 dollars to spend on it right now.

an 18-200 f/2.8 L IS/USM would be nice! can ya spare a dime?

the 50d looks pretty strong, esp. with a $1399 price point. could be an intriguing option for some folks.

At the rate the rumor mill is going I don't think you'll want the new 5D. In fact, it appears Canon may have painted themselves into a corner. (Um, how do we sell a camera for $3k that is as good as our $8k flagship???)

Just about my dream lens. Only make it a Nikon ED or N!! I would carry that at just about any weight or size!
 
Well I'm excited. I'm not ready to get a new body just yet, but by the time I am the price should be a bit less. I'd definitely like the resolution upgrade (from a 30D that's a pretty significant gain), and I'm SO ready to get access to the newer features they've been debuting like auto ISO, live view, and dynamic range optimization. And of course the microlenses, which I just read up on recently. They're a lot more clever than the name lead me to believe.

I'm reading up on the stats they have up for it at dpreview...

They've added autofocus adjustment! With individual settings for 20 lenses. Not that I feel I have the need for it, but it's a neat option and I'm glad to see it trickling down to the double digit D line from the 1 line. And an intriguing "peripheral illumination correction", which appears to be automatic vignetting correction. Whether this will only work with Canon brand lenses isn't clear.

One disappointment is that they appear to have taken away one of the custom modes on the mode dial in order to add a new "creative auto" mode that I think is totally unnecessary. I want three custom modes. Creative auto is just a dumbed down mode where instead of setting aperture or shutter speed priorities, you set "brightness" and "depth of field" priorities. Honestly, it's not that hard to learn what aperture means. Also I don't care for the silver finish on the mode dial, the shiny note on the otherwise serious black finish looks out of place to me.

Nah, Canon wouldn't be able to sell that to the crowd they are gunning for. They saw how Nikon sold a bunch of the 18-200VRs in that price range. They know the IS will give people those extra stops. You should think seriously about trying one out on your 40D at WDW. The 18-200VR was what I used at Smithville.

As for an upgrade to the 5D. Look what Nikon did with the D700. Less money but 90% of the D3 specs. It'll sell just fine, IMO.

Except Canon forgot the USM on theirs.

Ahh but D700 = 66% of D3 price.
A new 5D with close to 1DsMk3 specs at that range would be $5150. The problem would be this:

1DsMk3 maxes out at 5fps, but Canon's new 5D needs to be at least that.
Canon probably won't put the 1D AF in the 5D. Nikon put the same AF in the D700.
So a ~20mp 5D with 5fps and lesser AF at a very low price point would put tremendous pressure on the 1DsMk3, since it's aimed for studio or landscape photography, where fast AF isn't as much of an issue....

I am impressed by this camera. I am already planning on my next one, and had been thinking about the 40D, but this might have just replaced that thought process. :D
