Family Photo Shoot at WDW for Christmas Card Ideas

Hi all,

Traditionally, my family gets around to mailing out our Christmas cards over spring break in March (usually me and Patsy sitting in the solarium at Beach Club Villas stuffing envelopes and addressing).

Anyway, we'll be on property 12/25 -12/31 this year, and we would like to take some photos to use on the Christmas cards. ; The idea is one shot of the two kids, and one of Patsy and me. ; We'll put them together on the card (along with one of the dogs wearing Mickey ears).

So, I'm looking for suggestions of backgrounds. ; I'll have my tripod and remote release.

I was thinking DHS Osbourne lights, with a second curtain sync fill flash, but am open to other suggestions. ; We'll be at the YC this trip (easy access to Epcot and DHS).

Thoughts?

Man there are so many great places, the resort lobbys are gorgeous at this time, The gingerbread house at the Floridian. ; Can't wait to see what you finally get. ; Good luck!
 
ok, i know we are tmip, we like to do it ourselves, and can be very stubborn that way, but consider photopass, you know they are set up in some great background, esp the big 4 icons, and it's a pretty painless way to do this, plus you could all 4 be in 1 photo

Here I was trying come up with some great location. ; This I think is the best idea, plus you can let them take a shot or two with your camera, maybe you wont have to pay.
 
The Photopass photographers are always willing to take a shot with your camera. ; But be nice and have them take one with theirs as well. ; Try to have your camera pre-set and idiot-proofed for the best possible shot, especially if you're not using the exact same camera and lens as they are. ; You can never know the skill level of any particular Photopass photographer.
 
Hmmm, I like the idea of having them use my gear for a few shots. ;

During the recent Pixelmania visit, at the BC they were advertising professional photography sessions for family photo shoots. ; I didn't dare look at the cost.

I think I'll do a combination of the above. ; I'll have a few photopass shots, and still attempt some on my own. ; As I was looking at your suggestions, it occurred to me that with a true portrait, the background MAY not be all that visible (if I get more of a close-up and/or use a shallow DOF with some of those shiny Christmas lights).

I just ordered a RF remote on ebay after it got good reviews on Fred Miranda. ; $18 and does not need to be line of sight. ; I'll need to do some test shots at home before heading to the world.

Boris there is a shot at the Beach club that might work really well for lights in the background. ; At the first Pixelmania it rained a little on our Epcot day and we went inside at a few places. ; By time it stopped it was late at night, and the lights were on. ; I took this shot.

I know you wouldn't have the wet ground but it might be a neat place to try something with the family. ; Otherwise, I have done the photopass photography sessions at the Polynesian and it was not that bad. ; You get a decent amount of photos and they take you to what they feel are the best places. ; However they do take suggestions from you.

well yes i did, i know it's not what we are all about, but considering the logistics, and remembering what a fierce time it was for my mother to get us heathens to sit for a family photo, i kind of thought the idea of using photopass at least deserved a look over. plus some of what they do isn't bad background, far from it.
