Just got one of these bad boys for use at WDW in about 10 days. This might open up a door to get new stuff that I wasn't able to get before. For those not familiar, a Gorillapod is a mini tripod with flexible and bendable legs that wrap around railings, fence posts, tree branches, etc. as well as bending to conform to any location. Expect a review article very soon but for now if you want to order one for yourself ($59.99), be sure to click the B&H banner and search for Gorillapod SLR Zoom. It is rated to 6.6 pounds but don't confuse it with Gorillapod SLR... that one only holds 1.5 lbs.

Good luck. I didn't have much luck with that one on the railings at MK (it took a lot of work to get it to stay put) because not every orb rotates. I haven't pulled it out since that first day I got it.

Did you get the one with the ballhead from B&H?

sunpack medium size ballhead but i also have a ballhead from manfrotto to use with it. i might use a shoelace or small bungee cord as a cinch strap to really lock it in tight to avoid any 'unpleasantness'.

Tim I would not recommend this to hang over any balconies! Especially twelve floors up. ;)
You can borrow a friends tripod! ;)

so, I've invented a couple uses for this new toy!

It needs mounted on the front of ride cars like a hood ornament to capture some great panning/action shots on rides.

You need to wrap it around your head and use the camera remote to take shots with a second camera body, or as an option if you are just too tired to carry a camera.
 
I look forward to a review of this one. I've been interested in this for a while, but at the same time I've been skeptical. I always liked my tabletop tripod, it was useful in a wide variety of situations (some you can't use a normal tripod for), but ultimately it was too limiting and I switched to a full sized tripod and have enjoyed it tremendously. But I can't help but dream of using this Gorillapod thing to get access to all sorts of spaces where I couldn't use either option before, or as a smaller alternative to the full sized tripod. For instance, I've had to use my full sized tripod to get pictures of the Clouded Leopard at the zoo, but there is a railing there that I could theoretically attach a Gorillapod to. I've taken my share of low light pictures in Disney World by leaning against a lamp post, if this thing works I could attach it to the lamp post instead.

Don't get me started with what could be accomplished if you were on a dark ride that stopped for a bit, imagine the low ISO pictures that could be taken of the usually inaccessible dark scenes (just no moving objects) by clamping this bad boy onto some part of the frame of the ride vehicle.

I got the regular SLR Gorillapod a while back but don't use it much. This one is probably a lot better.

it's rated at 5 lbs more than the basic one so hopefully it will work well.
