West of Austin there is a wildlife preserve that is open to the public. ; It is also the home to a natural "pool" that is open for swimming so long as the bacteria levels are not excessive (usually the case after a rainstorm).

You have to walk a half a mile on moderately rugged terrain to get there (although they do have a steep paved path for emergency vehicles!), and there are a few miles of trails through the preserve as well.

The pool is fed by the stream seen in the upper right side of the pic above.


People like to sit underneath the flow:

(I know it's not sharp, but you try handholding a 500mm lens (750 equiv) at 1/40 sec!)

that is one neat looking place. Still playing with the tamron roger? 1/40 at 750mm !!! not bad actually. I couldn't do it. It would be one big blur

(Yes it was very wet and very slippery to cross behind the pool area!)

And just for perspective's sake: The last pic was at 500mm (750mm equiv), the one before it was 28mm (28mm equiv).

Oh umm these are from that same weekend, so the tele is the Tamron. ; I think I misunderstood your statement!
 
no problem. I thought these were recent and then when you said you only had it for the weekend I thought you got a prime 500mm for these as in you bought one. does this make any sense ?I need more coffee. went out real early for shooting today at forsythe
 
Nahhhhh if I rent a prime 500 for a weekend it'll be for the spring when the Whooping Cranes come through to nest down at the Gulf of Oil, I mean Mexico.
