finally out in the open. usually they are very skittish but at one point I was only about 4 ft away

it is the same one ducking in and out of the grass. the only reason I was able to get close was that a lot of the water is frozen so the hunting area is small. bitterns stand on the waters edge and hide in the tall grass watching for fish. earlier in the year I couldn't get anywhere near it
