New gear for Pixelmania 2010?

Thought it would be neat to see what new gear everyone will be bring to Pixelmania this year that they did not have last year. ; Sadly I have nothing new, but there is still time! ; Possibly looking for a ND filter and/or a new travel tripod.

What's new with you?
 
I will have my bigma which is new since last year. ; Otherwise, just some random odds and ends for now.

Not much here, just a new Manfrotto ball head for my tripod and an ND filter. ; I'm considering renting a fast lens to complement my 35mm f/1.8. ; Any suggestions?

What do you think you'd be looking for? ; If you want something wider, the 24/1.4. ; If you want something longer, the Sigma 50/1.4.
 
The 50mm f/1.4 is certainly on my list to rent. ; I'm considering buying the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 and may rent one to try it out.
 
I'm not attending Pixelmania this year (maybe next year - I miss all you photoloonies!), but I did get a lot of great new gear this year that I used on my recent WDW trip:

A gently-used Canon 50D with battery grip and 4 batts from an eBay auction.
A new Canon EF-S 18-200IS lens (fantabulous lens!) from B&H.
A new knock-off petal hood ($9 instead of the $78 Canon wants for theirs) from DealExtreme.com.
A new Sunpak carbon-fibre tripod with pistol-grip ball head from Best Buy.

I really enjoyed shooting with this new gear, though I got less time with it than I normally get because my Dad was with me (I usually go solo and can spend as much time shooting as I want).

And last weekend I picked up a new P&S camera, a Canon Powershot SD1400. I haven't played with it too much yet; just picked it up for routine daily snaps and to make some YoutTube videos of my camera harness, but so far it impresses me with its low-light performance and the sharpness of its LCD screen. It's also smaller and lighter than my iPhone, so it's easy to carry. Probably easy to lose, too.

Based on online pics and the users' first hand knowledge: ; For reasons that seem odd, the Sigma 50 is better wide open than the Nikon. ; Of course, when you stop it down you won't be able to tell the difference between the lenses or even the cheapest kit lens....so why would you stop it down? ; The colors, bokeh, sharpness, you name it, all better at 1.4.

Plus it focuses faster than the Nikon. ; While the Nikon has AF-S, it's not getting the top of the line AF-S like the 24, 35 and 85 AF-S got.
 
Same Camera, just a new Tripod Pistol Grip, Star Filter, ND Filter (on order), travel Monopod, and an unbroken Gorillapod (last one snapped a leg after a year's worth of use). ; Still have another year or so before any new cameras.
 
Lots of little stuff, is always good too, Red.

Will how is that Tri-pod, I have looked at it and really thought about getting it. ; I have a Sunpak, but not as nice as that one.

I like it a lot. I don't think I'd classify it as a "high-end" tripod, but it's a lot more high-end than I've ever owned. It's very lightweight, easy to set up and take down, and is pretty stable for normal photography.

Aside from the pistol-grip ball head, it has a lot of features that I've never had in a tripod, like a bubble level, replaceable center column, extendable spikes in the feet for use on grass or dirt, and panning head for video.

Build quality feels very solid; it's carbon-fibre, so it's strong, despite its light weight, and the pistol-grip feels pretty solid and steady.

I also like the carry case that came with it.
 
Here's hoping my birthday present comes early this year in the form of a new tripod of some sort ;) (To Sean)
 
Since last Pixelmania, I've picked up the Minolta 300mm F4 APO lens, the Tamron 90mm F2.8 macro lens, and a new Think Tank Retrospective Lens Changer 2 bag for my two long lenses. ; That should be all by Pixelmania time!
 
This year was a big one for gear. I have a new Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod and head. Also a 300/2.8 lens, but I definitely won't be carrying it around all day. I may pick one or 2 specific events to bring it along. Also a totally manual ( manual focus, aperture, shutter speed, no metering thru my D90) 50mm/1.4 lens. That should make dark ride photos an interesting challenge! And, last but not least, to carry it all, a Lowepro Flipside 300 backpack.

5d mark2, no other gear so far, although the 70-200 f2.8 mark 2 lens is being considered, i have the non is f4 and it's a great lens but sometimes i need that full stop of light extra, weight is really all that's holding me back so far
 
Hey Tim if you decide to leave another 900 dollar lens in Orlando can you do that in my Camera bag ; ;D
