Nikon accidentally leaks the D300s

True, but I can't remember the last time that Nikon upgraded one model using the same sensor (without changing the name, like the D90, or the D200/D80, with different feature sets: exception D2 series).

It's like Canon with the 20D and 30D, same sensor, just a few improvements but the same class of camera....

I'm guessing that the D400 isn't ready for prime time, which makes sense since I'm hearing that it's a Sony sensor.... ; (and this rumor also meshes with the D3s rumor)
 
This isn't too exciting to me.
The new SD CF cards are really no big deal as cards and card readers have gotten so cheap, I just dont care what kind of card I need.

And video has never excited me, I always make slideshows out of my pictures which I prefer.

Personally, cameras may have maxed out for me on quality. I cant afford the glass to go with a 24MP full frame camera and my photography skills certainly cant justify $10,000 + in gear.
At least, I dont have to deal with gear lust this year. Last year, I really really wanted a d700.

Don't forget the D70s. ; Nikon does have some history of adding features to a previous camera body and using a letter designation. If there is a D400 on the horizon, Nikon doesn't want to add another inbetween model number so used the 's'.

At the price of these camera bodies, people really do want to see major improvements before investing. ; I don't see many D300 users upgrading to the D300s. ; But D40/60/80 users might skip the D90 body for it.

Excellent point!
I have been saying for some time now, that while bodies may have the same sensors and same image quality, there is HUGE difference in the ergonomics of the bodies. I don't ever want to go back to the d80/d90 style body again. I love the features of the semipro bodies.

I like having the different body designs, it's like it was when I got into photography mid/late 90s. ; Canon had 3 classes: ; entry level (Rebel), advanced entry/prosumer (Elan II, A2, eventually EOS-3 in a way), and professional (EOS-1). ; Once you taste a better body it's hard to go back.

And Scott, thanks for the correction!

On a side note, the rumors are heading to the fact that Sony's next camera will have HD Video with full SLR AF (remember, they have that new slider switch for live view that allows it to use the AF sensor, not contrast based AF). ; Canon and Nikon have to be working furiously to improve their AF during video recording. ; (Not to mention a full pull out LCD like the D5000)

I agree with all being said here. I've started out onthe DSLR with my 40D & as my skills improve, I'd like to upgrade in the future, but I can't see myself jumping to the 50D when I can just go to the 5D Mark II & actually move up to a Full Frame camera with a lot better resolution. So for me, that is the plan.

Ask Tim about video and a dSLR. ; He made the same comments to me before getting his hands on the Canon 5D Mark II and now he's shooting quite a bit of video on that thing (or so he claims ;))

I currently carry both a HD video camera, a Nikon D80 and a Nikon D300. ; If I could get a solution that would let me drop the video camera, I'd jump on it.

I'm wondering if any of these features would be upgradable with a firmware flash like how a lot of the new iPhone 3Gs features will be available to us older iPhone users by upgrading the OS
 
The big question for me is: ; Will this lead to a price drop on the D300 so I can afford to upgrade?
