thanks John. I hope so. I didn't get the owl shots till around 4pm. there are atleast 4 of them out there now and sometimes they come closer early in ; the day too
 
Fav'd the second owl photo on flickr. ; I really love that one, Howie! ; I am thinking of renting the Sigma 50-500 for the trip down in June for the D700. ; It doesn't have the crop factor of the D7000 but it should help. Are you using a tripod/monopod/shooting stick these days?

I have a tripod and mono pod but don't use them much in the winter. too much moving around tracking down birds for me. I find using a tripod for birds sitting still is ok but when they are in flight I can't keep the camera on them.I do need to practice using a tripod for birds in flight but I will wait for warmer weather for that. Tim uses that sigma lens on his 1d and loves it. My tamron is finally fixed and on the UPS truck for delivery
