Photo Backup Device

Does anyone use any type of photo backup device? ; I am currently looking at the Sanho HyperDrive ColorSpace UDMA 250 GB Photo Backup Storage & Viewer with 3.2" LCD. ;

Just wondering what others are using...

Heard good things about the Hyperdrives. ; I use a Wolverine 80gb ESP; what I'm doing now is downloading the cards to my laptop's HD, and then backing up the pics to the ESP every night. ; That way BOTH hard drives would have to fail for the pics to disappear.... (and it allows me to use a FW UDMA reader to download as well!)

i used to have an epson p-2000. ; it was a nice device but i sold it awhile back. ; right now i just use a netbook with external HD.

Please educate me: ; these backup devices look neat, but what advantages do they have over a netbook which costs less, has a bigger screen and more capabilities?

That's pretty much my stance, Dennis. ; Smaller size would be the only advantage methinks. ;

They were there before netbooks; ; there is a reason I haven't upgraded my device - mainly because the next time I do it's going to just be a portable HD instead.....

The devices came out when 2gb cards costed more than $100 each, so having 80-160gb in the field was a godsend....now that memory is cheap, their usefulness has gone way down....

Kind of like using SmartMedia cards (or a Microdrive CF). ; They still work, but technology has moved on. ; But there was a time when they were important.

Never cared much for the single use devices, as I had 2 fail with images on them. Now I always transfer over to my laptop first. Then, burn my images onto DVD at the end of the day. This way I have two copies one of which is on an archive media.

This is all great information.....never really thought about the netbooks before until now. ; Dell has a couple that are actually cheaper than the HyperDrive....

B&H, official supplier of The Magic in Pixels, has a large selection of netbooks as well. ; They feature Windows XP and many have free shipping.
