Ahhh yes the outlying bands of moisture began to hit last night - fortunately for us the Austin Heat Shieldâ„¢ kept the storm right in our area (it prevented it from hitting the main part of town). ; And we've got rain forecasted through at least 7/4, which means that it'll be another year with heavy rain on that day.

Shot from the relative safety of my garage, but the rain was blowing in. ; Used the rainsleeve so the only thing that got wet was the filter (see the drops?) and the tripod legs. ; Most of the lightning was cloud-to-cloud last night.

Thanks everyone!

Chris, you're right - they're wonderful as long as they don't include damaging hail!

What rainsleeve do you use? ; Or is it homemade?

Op-Tech's. ; This was actually the first time I used it but it has a drawstring for the lens, so that in this case, only the filter was exposed to the elements....and it should fit a 70-200/2.8 as well! ; It was probably too large for the 28-105, but it worked!

Another day of moisture, this time it was during work hours! ; We got somewhere between 2 and 4 inches of rain in 90 minutes, right at the beginning of rush hour (I'd say our rush hour is 3:30-6:30). ; Hurricane Alex's impact is just beginning; it's been forever since I've seen a 7 day forecast with T-storms forecasted every day....so while the eye of the hurricane will miss the U.S. (unless it drifts north in a hurry), Texas is still going to get hammered with moisture.....

good grab Roger. hats of to you. I don't trust lightning and have never attempted to try a shot of it

I haven't gotten any lightning shots in years - not an easy thing. ; I seem to get more of the cloud-ground stuff that makes you go hide somewhere, as opposed to the awesome cloud-to-cloud stuff. ; Florida's lightning is sort of intimidating, even to folks who aren't scared of lightning. ; I've sat confidently upright as a native Floridian while my relatives visiting cowered in fear in the living room and explained how I was used to it, and had those RIGHT NOW bolts smack outside and make me flinch and duck like a weenie. ; Florida lightning has hair on it.

Thanks everyone!

Howie - I actually took this one from the safety of my garage - the last time I actually went outdoors for lightning was during a freak electrical only storm (no rain) where the cell wasn't traveling towards me and was a safe distance away....

Awesome! I'm going to have to try this some day, but as has been said, lightning in FL can be intimidating.
