Sigma's 200-500/2.8 HSM, includes 2x teleconverter

Did you notice the detail that the lens itself uses a dedicated battery pack for zooming and autofocus? And that it has an LCD panel displaying focusing distances and focal lengths?

I want one. It's completely impractical for anything I'd want to do, and of course I'll never have that much money unless I win the lottery or discover a previously unknown uncle has just died and left me millions of dollars in his will. But I have an attraction to this sort of gross excess.

Yeah I did see that. I have this strange feeling the price of this lens is around the original price of the 1200/5.6L. Or higher.

Cool...the rebate alone would pay for a new camera. I'd like to see Tim bring this into MK. Hey, we all want to shot Fantasyland's Carousel through the castle FROM the Main Street Rail Road platform, right? :D

I can do that with my 200-500 now. Of course, I consider even MY 200-500 lens to be too big to lug around Disney World - I couldn't imagine this behemoth! You'd need a motorized cart just for the lens. Then again, for the price it should COME with its own motorized cart.

While I'll admit to being a bit jealous about having F2.8 at 500mm (versus my current lens' maximum of F6.3), for a price under $1,000 and a hand-holdable weight, I'll stick with my current one. And 1,000mm at F5.6, not to mention the crop factor from my APSC sensor which would push to 1500mm optically...well that's just crazy nuts! You could not only shoot the carousel from the train station, but you could focus on the gold tooth in the smile of a person riding it!
