Tamron 28-200mm F/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD
Could this be a great compromise daytime walk-around Disney lens? 28-200 focal length (28-300 effectively if you have a body that can jump from FF to APS-C and back). Reviews on B&H are mostly 5 stars. Yes, the aperture is slow but this is a daytime lens and I hardly ever shoot faster than f/5.6 when walking around anyway. Not super expensive ($729 new), lightweight, and not very long. Opinions?

funny you should talk about this lens, i too have been following it, both on fredmiranda.com, reviews on b&h and photos on flickr. i am interested in it for rail charters, much of the photos are daytime, what is at sunrise or at night can be done off tripod or monopod, night shoots are static and can be done usually with the 28-75 or the 17-28 f2.8 lenses, both of which i already have, i am doing some other lenses for pixelmania, however 1/28/22 i will be flying to west palm, and driving over to clewiston for a saturday/sunday charter, run by trains magazine on the newly restored steam locomotive on the us sugar plantation. i can rent this lens for a week from lens rental for $52, so i plan on giving it a try, if i come back and like what i see i'll be buying one. fairly lightweight, reduces the bag for charter trips involving flying, and who knows, it might just make a trip to a pixelmania, along with one of my fast primes for dark rides.

aaahhhh damm you devine, always costing me money, i thought it over , for all of 3 minutes, and impulsively rented this from lens rentals for pixelmania, no time like the present to find out if it'll do what i need, this will take the place of the 70-180 tamron i already own, that was making the trip. i'm really looking to travel light this year anyway, a 3 lens bag, 24 f1.4, do not really feel i need wider, probably going to have the 50mm f1.2 gm and this tamron for walking around

well i just ordered it, with the sale, and what i was paying for a 13 day rental, i am at wdw for 10 days so i needed more that the standard 7 day rental, i was almost halfway to the purchase price, and i keep seeing good reviews and there is a nice group in flickr, i think this will do just fine as a walk around

Did you see they just announced and 18–300 APS-C lens? I’m curious what kind of reviews that will get.

I know it is a crop lens with a fairly slow aperture, but with a 27-450 equivalent, that is absolutely amazing if it has good image quality. Tamron seems to be making very good lenses these days.

i'll take the 200 long end, quality in super zooms really degrades after that, not that tamron can't hit one out of the park, but after reading several reviews and looking at the 205 photos in the flickr group, this is a good point for me , i rarely need 300 at a rail charter, and don't forget, with the A1 i still have a good aps-c option for more reach

Yeah that’s true. It’s still 42-300 but hot damn 27-450 would be nice if it can hold up.
