ok, so here it is, i think i figured this out, the view from the officers seat, engine 6-1-1, as my band of brothers and i march in the washington's day parade hosted by the greenport volunteer fire department. i'm usually back in the rear cab jump seat, maybe strapping up a scott air pack, ahead is 6-1-30, the chief of depatment's car, ahead of that our small hardy band of marchers

that's gus, he's 82 and still active. the antlers were from a deer that tried to stare down the engine one night when they were going to the county training center

ok, so i'm making some progress here, the above photo is while pulling up to the host department's main house, and it links to the full size at the website, now i just need to add text before the photo link

Don't you know "old" is relative?
and here it's really proven, about 2 weeks ago, cold, windy, probably windchill of 20, pager goes off, 0430 hours, jamesport, you are responding to a motor vehicle accident, heavy rescue requested , now this response is the heavy rescue truck, 1 engine, and the fire police unit for traffic control, i'm at the firehouse, finishing getting into my bunker gear, stepping over to the engine fast so i'm on that, and here comes gus, age 82, and lew, age 89, firing up the fire police pickup, and you know they are ready to be out in the weather, keeping us safe from oncoming traffic, they are my fire service heroes, no one would have a problem if they were excused from that , they've served their time and done their duty, but they don't ask to be excused and they don't fail to answer the call

Oh, I know! ; I'm not saying it from the POV of a fit young guy saying 'good for the old guy'...I'm saying it from the POV of an out of shape middle aged guy saying 'darn, that guy's spryer than me despite being twice my age'!
