New Band in Canada

While making one of my rare visits to Facebook, I came across a post from Off Kilter fiddler Jason Thomas. It said that, beginning January 15, a Quebecois band called The Tradnation Project will be performing in Epcot's Canada pavilion. It will be good to have some proper entertainment on that stage once again.

You can bet I'll check them out when I'm there at the end of February.

thats great! when we went in December it was so nice to see the voyageurs. no more crappy chainsaws!

Count me in for the new show also, whatever a Québécois band is. Also is was great seeing the voyageurs this year.

Quebecois?, think la boutine soriant, or yves lambert. Good stuff, fiddle and accordian rich, celtic and french folk in the mix, good dance stuff

A welcome addition. Nothing quite replaces Off Kilter, but music is so much better than the chainsaw show for me. And I like traditional roots type music, so should be fun.

Touringplans.com posted a video of the new TradNation band in Canada. It looks like @gary was spot-on. They remind me of the early version of La Bottine Souriante (before they added horns).

And the Canadian log rolls once again...
TradNation is out and Alberta Bound is in. Here's the news from Off Kilter fiddler Jason Thomas' Facebook page:

"Hey everyone, our new show opens Wed. May 4 on the Mill Stage at The Canada Pavilion at EPCOT!! It will run 5 weeks, through June 5. Here's a little info on the band Alberta Bound:
Alberta Bound is a band of talented musicians and singers, led by Canadian native fiddler, Jason Thomas. Jason was born in Ontario, Canada, where he grew up and learned to play the fiddle. He became adept at various Canadian fiddle styles, as well as other styles of popular Canadian music. He is joined by a great line up of talented, experienced entertainers, all of whom have played Canadian music in EPCOT’s popular Christmas Show, The Canadian Holiday Voyageurs. Alberta Bound showcases a variety of Canadian music, including traditional fiddle styles from across the country, as well as popular songs from well known Canadian song writers and artists, from Gordon Lightfoot, to KD Lang, complete with beautiful vocals and harmonies. Instrumentation will include fiddle, mandolin, acoustic and electric guitars, bass and drums. The show is light and energetic, with lots of opportunities for clapping and singing along!"

For once, luck is with me, as I will be at WDW May 7-10. I plan to come back with a report and several photos of the new band.

The circus is out and Alberta Bound is back for a limited run, Aug. 31 - Oct. 2. Shows are Wednesday - Sunday at 2:15, 3:30, 5:00, 6:15 and 7:30. (From Jason Thomas' Facebook page.)

It will be interesting to see what replaces Alberta Bound for the remainder of October. I would be shocked if Disney brought in another group for a month before switching over to the Holiday Voyagers which is almost the same lineup as Alberta Bound anyway.

The revolving door spins once again...

Beginning October 9, the musical entertainment in Canada will be provided by another Quebcois band, Bodh'aktan. Going by the music samples on their web site, they are a Celtic pub band, except that they sing in French. I'm looking forward to seeing them during Pixelmania.

They will take a break during the holidays and return to play through January. Jason Thomas of Off Kilter told me that the he and the rest of the Canadian Voyageurs will return in November and December.

Glad to hear Jason and the gang will be back in December. I just got permission to attend a conference at the Swan in December and am looking forward to seeing them again. Looking forward to seeing the new band in October as well.

Resurrecting an old thread (my specialty).

The revolving door in Canada is revolving once again. Current act Suroît plays their final Epcot set on October 1.

That clears the way for the return of TMIP favorite Bodh'aktan who will grace the Mill Stage on October 2-22.

On October 23, Raffy makes their debut, playing through November 26.

Starting November 27, our old friends the Canadian Holiday Voyageurs will finish out the year.

i am a lucky person, living in lucky times, karen and i will be in wdw 10/21 to 10/28, which means i get to introduce her to bodh'aktan, for their last day, and she and i get to check out a new act, raffy, starting right after that.
