This is a tuff ride to take pictures on- at least for me. Here is my best effort from last night. Feel free to share yours.

All taken with Nikon D50 + 105/2.8vr wide open.

great attempts, esp. for only have f/2.8. i have had great success on POTC but everything i shoot is f/1.8 or faster. last one is pretty darn good for f/2.8.

Thanks- I think the last room there with CJS is better lit than the rest of the ride. I almost used the 50/1.8 but decided to trade the extra stop for vr (and a little more zoom). The other thing I noticed is that whatever lighting they do have in there completely threw off my Auto WB. I was shooting Raw + Jpg and the Jpg files were wiped out color-wise with whatever the prevailing flood lights in the area were. Setting the WB to Tungsten helped a little bit.

I haven't gotten to POTC on my files to process from Feb yet! To see my final results for Canon's 2.8 IS.

But it made me realize that while IS is nice, you still need the speed at times. imagine Canon having a 50/1.2 IS!

Oh well I can't wait to take my 35/1.4 through the paces in a month. But that's what cropping is for.

I can understand wanting more zoom but VR or IS is not going to help you on moving rides. Pics will still be blurry because the car/boat/etc. itself is moving. VR/IS only helps with camera shake.

You could always do the old "crop zoom" after the fact in Photoshop... :)

Nice pictures. My 18-200vr lens only opens to 3.5. VR did not help me much. I did get ok pictures of the jail scene and Jack in his chair. There was a traffic jam, so the boat was at a complete stop and jammed up against other boats, so it was not moving at all.
I do have good pictures somewhere. The park was DEAD and noone was on the ride, so we got to sit right up front, so... I turned on the FLASH!!!! Those pictures look pretty good.

I attempted a few shots with my 18-200VR set at active mode but gave up after a couple of tries and just enjoyed the ride. ;D Should have had my 50/1.8 on for this one.
