The local zoo has Sunset Safaris during the month of July on Tuesday nights. ; People get a chance to see animals actually move instead of sleep like these African Lions.

Beautiful! We plan to visit the Houston zoo when the weather cools. It has been @ 20 years since I have been there so I don't know if it's a good park or not.

You'll find after 20 years, the zoo will have changed a lot and for the better. ; Most zoos have learned to create better and healthier environments for their animals.

Great portrait on the male lion - nice sharp detail on the fur. ; Much better than you can usually get with the AK animatronic versions up on the rock. ; ;)

Ah, but it can be done! ; This was taken in December of 2006. ; Haven't seen him on his feet since. ; :D

That's because the maint. workers are usually parked at Mt. Everest working on the Yeti rather than the lions in the oldest attraction of the park. ; ;D
 
Oh, I've caught him up a few times...Back in March 08, they mounted him in the standing position over on the edge of the rock...probably had to clean the space where it's usually mounted:

It also allows them to clean the underside of the animatronic animal. ; In June 09 they had finally fixed the motion animatronics and had him moving back and forth on his track for a change:

It's great attention to detail the way they hid the track just behind the rock and grass.

Unfortunately, the motion animatronics are really giving Disney trouble - the lion is about as unreliable as the Yeti animatronics are...most people get the lying down lion and the unmoving yeti. ; Every once in a while, you get lucky and all the machinery is working! ; ;)

Great shots of those Animatronics Justin & Scott. Maybe maintenance needs to stuff a little more filling into that male. He is looking a little deflated around the mid section.
