Bear catching salmon

I'm just back from my dream trip to Alaska. ; I got the familiar shot of the bear catching a salmon at Brooks River Falls in Katmai National Park. ; The two bears were fighting over the salmon seen in the photo on the left. ; The bear on the left had caught and partially eaten the fish. ; He was about 30 yards away trying to catch another fish when the bear on the right tried to take the partially eaten salmon. ; The other bear immediately came over to ; reclaim the partially eaten fish. ; After the bear on the left won the fight, ; he went back to fishing, totally ignoring the partially eaten fish. ; He just didn't want the other bear to have it.

This mother bear was amazing. ; She has already caught a fish for each of her 3 cubs and has a 4th in her mouth. ; She was the fastest at catching a salmon of any of the bears that I witnessed. ; She could catch a fish within 5 seconds of stepping into the water.

nice action shots....funny, I just saw Brave last night and didn't realize that these bears are so coordinated at catching those salmon.

Paul, Some of the bears are not very good at fishing. ; There was one young bear who was really fun to watch, jumping all over the place in the river, but I never saw him catch a fish.

how far in advance did you book platform time. that's supposed too be one of the most coveted tickets in alaska
