Being Old Fashioned is Cool

That's what my eight year old daughter said last night when she looked at a Velvia 50 slide for the first time ever in her life. ; I was scanning some slides from last summer's vacation in the mountains and she came in the office saying she couldn't sleep. ; Insomnia immediately turned into interest when she saw the illuminator and lupe I picked up the other day. ; She spent the next half hour or so looking through slides while I tried to explain how analog photography worked. ; She went to bed after telling me that sometimes being old fashioned is cool. ; 8)

Awesome shot Jeff of your daughter and $5 loupe.[nb]I think I still have that one, although I also have one of those more fancy Canon ones with the aspherical elements/UD glass/flourite or whatever they had at the time.[/nb]

You're making me want to go out and shoot film again sooner rather than later.

Thanks Roger-

I got all crazy and ordered a few goodies from B&H over the weekend. ; Changing bag, developing tank, reels, etc. to do our own B&W negatives (2x35mm or 1x120). ; It's been years and years for me but I think she would get a kick out of it. ; Plus I was going to do it anyway since getting any kind of B&W silver film developed around here takes 3 weeks minimum.

I have people out the wazoo selling that stuff on Craigslist here..... ; but enjoy!

There is some stuff on CL here too but I don't want an entire darkroom setup right now- If I had the room in my house I would seriously consider it for some of the under $100 complete setups I have seen out there though. ; But for a $25 tank kit it's easier to me to just order it than deal with CL people sometimes. ; ::)

Re: Being Old Fashioned is Cool HT to Jeff!

Thanks for the inspiration Jeff. ; Had the light "box" out to look for some archives to scan. ; And DD saw it. ; So I got out my Canon loupe....

Except that I'll be spending a half an hour tonight putting the slides back in!

My 4.5yo!
