New as in, not just an exact update of an old lens.

While some may wow at the return of the old 200/1.8 lens body in 200/2 IS form, look at the 800/5.6.

Currently, the major lines max at 600, and Canon has a 1200 that has been around for more than a decade, and costs almost six figures, and needs a tank crew to lug around.

With APS-C the 800 becomes 1040, which is much closer to what the 1200 can do, and looking at pics of the 800/5.6 - much smaller.

It makes me wonder if Canon has a full frame sports camera in the works. Nikon is pushing the D3 as a sports/photojournalism camera, but if the max you can do is 600mm without cropping.....

PMA is early in 2008. In fact it's occuring right before the Super Bowlâ„¢ - I'm heading to Orlando on Super Bowlâ„¢ weekend so I know I can't get to Las Vegas for PMA, but it should be interesting.

Competition is a good thing.

That's interesting... I would have never thought that the FDA would have to approve anything... 21.C.F.R.§ 1002.10 refers to "accelerators intended to emit x-radiation" I wonder what they put in the lenses would do that?
