Canon's SLR market share falls 10%, Nikon up 21%.

In 2006, Canon had 46.7% of the SLR market, Nikon 33%. In 2007, Canon had 42%, Nikon 40%

Canon is still the #1 digital camera manufacturer in the world, followed by Sony. Overall Nikon is #5, but these rankings include point & clicks. Why am I not surprised by the 2007 numbers?

Yes; I was reading another article from a few months ago that was discussing why maybe it's time for Canon to abandon the EOS mount...but it was mostly because they felt that Canon was focusing so much on new bells and whistles with "old" technology while others passed them by with new technology (nano coat for example) in order to catch up. And the article mentioned their flagship having problems, and the writer also had a problem where the 1DsMkIII LCD screen wasn't installed correctly at the factory! (oops!)

Competition is good. When all parties are serious about it.

I'd like Canon to get back into the business of dominating things, but I'm happy to see the market treating them roughly when they get lazy.

That's good news, even for us Canon owners. Fierce competition always benefits the consumer. Canon definately needs to pick up their game.
