Cross Country Trip Is a Go!

While not technically a Disney trip, we have started planning our trip across the U.S. this Summer. ; The list of must see places is growing, but we will also manage to stop in on this place some of you may have heard of, Disneyland!!

Any tips are appreciated, I will provide more details when I know them.
 
Here are most of the sights we plan to see on our trip this Summer, still working on the list:

what an awesome list! I did monument valley, but I wouldlove to go back now with the better camera!
Henry Ford museum is great fun too! Dina and I did that a few years ago
 
I had fun at the Ford Museum when I daughter was going to Michigan. ; I got a post around here showing some of the photos.

Let's see, I was in Minneapolis this year, too. ; But I was north of Mt. Rushmore though I might be there this fall if it all works out.

Time to get out and practice your landscape photography, Paul! ; Your family ready for the early mornings and late dinners? ; :)
 
Looks like a very cool trip. If you can add it, Carlsbad Caverns is really neat. I haven't been there in a very very long time, but it was worth the time.

Definitely need to practice my landscape skills; also contemplating renting a wide lens. ; I was hoping I would have a full frame camera by now, but I'm still saving and waiting for the "right" time.

When you rent that lens, why not rent a full-frame body to go with it?

I posted shots of Alcatraz and Yosemite in my California memories post. ; I have a bunch more shots of Yosemite that I have to scan some day; the place is so beautiful and photogenic!
 
the right time is the time that YOU need the advantages that full frame will bring to your circumstances, in other words if you really know in your heart that some of the low light landscape needs full frame to bring it out, then get it, after all, how many of these type trips will you make in your life, is this that "trip of ; lifetime'?, if so, and you can pay for it, get it. since this is a drive trip, surely there is space in the minivan for 2 bodies and your lens set, this way you can get the advantages of both size sensors for tele and wide. here's a valid suggestion, buy a used 5d, it's still a fine landscape camera, and i hear no rumors about a successor to the mk 2, i'm still waiting myself for that, i want the 7d af upgrade, but the 5d works as good as ever on landscape for me, so no move by me yet, and i don't feel that it's no longer a good camera. just my 0.02 as usual
 
Sounds like one heck of a roadtrip. Sounds like a lot of fun. I will suggest Rocky Mountain National Park if you are near it at any point. It's a place you can spend time at or just drive through and stop and lookouts. Great Colorado landscape and animal life. We are going there on our roadtrip this summer. Not quite as good of a list as yours :), mainly just camping and hiking around parts of Colorado. I can't wait to see your pictures.

Good points Gary, but I really think I will get back to some of these places in the future and I made a decision sometime ago to buy something new when it first comes out. ; I really could have used a full frame a long time ago, but the re$ource$ were just not there. ; I bought the 40D 1-1.5 years after it was introduced, ; I guess I just want to get something that is brand new and will have a longer time being "cutting edge" and it definitely needs to be a full frame. ; So I guess it will be either a 5D MKIII or a 1Ds MkIV($$). Buying used right now would just delay getting something new. ; If I had to guess, I will probably end up with a 5D MKIII and one of the new rumored lenses (EF 14-24 2.8L or EF 24-70 f/2.8L IS).

Renting a body is just too much dollars out the window in my opinion. ; Renting the 10-22 for my 40D is somewhat more palatable.

Dennis those some nice shots you have. ; Yosemite is probably the place I am looking forward to most. ; I have to keep in mind I probably am not going there at the best time with all of the tourists and the waterfalls probably wont be at their peak, but I will make the most of whatever I see. ; Trying to get all the sunrises and sunsets is just not going to be possible, but I will try. ; As Gary says, I can sleep on the plane (or in my case in August).
 
A Yosemite workshop is definitely on my list as well. ; I would love to be there in February to get pictures of the light hitting Horsetail Falls at sunset. ; Those pictures are amazing.
 
Anyone been to the Disney museum in San Francisco yet? ; Looking for some things to do there. ; Alcatraz is on the list already and probably Fort Point National Park.
