It was announced today at the D23 expo that the blue prints that were leaked on the internet are accurate. ; Toontown is going away and there will now be mini-"lands" for princesses. ; The existing fantasyland will stay the same, but just be added onto.

According to Jay Rusolo, it will be the largest expansion in the history of the Magic Kingdom.

There will be dueling Dumbos with a Circus Tent theme and a interactive non-queue. ; According to the announcement there will be no queue for Dumbo.

Also, in 2011 we will be getting a new Star Tours with multiple endings

More important, time to document every inch of what is going away so that it can be preserved in the archives

Got that one right! ; I wasn't really planning on photographing Toontown - I don't have any shots from there since it's often so crowded, and I figured it isn't going anywhere. ; Well, now it IS going somewhere, so I guess if I ever want to get some shots to document the place, now's the time!

Exactly! That's the thinking that initially started my obsession with WDW photography!

Same here - guess I'll be doing that in about 40 days!

Wow does Disney know how to make an announcement or what? Theres lots of videos on youtube already!

Sounds good....also sounds like Disneyland will need to be visited after all of the improvements being made at DCA

shame about toon town, but they hadn't done much with it really, but then can do better than a princess's section really.

hmm i' going next year guess i'll miss the star tours add ons

Are they also getting rid of west coast toontown?

No.

While the expansion is Disney's response to He-who-shall-not-be-named, I'm standing by my little prediction that MK will see a Toontown across the tracks within a few years, but it probably won't be approved until after Carsland is closer to completion - once complaints come in about the lack of small children areas...then it'll be greenlit. ; Perhaps for 12 years from now, but I'd wager more on ; 2016. ; Since only Ariel's Adventure will be completed for the 40th Anniv.......

It's funny that their response to that particular franchise that will appeal to both boys and girls is to roll out an expansion that will primarily appeal to girls.

But, as far as the West-Coast ToonTown goes, Disneyland's ToonTown is leaps and bounds better than the East-Coast version.

I'm glad to see WDW ToonTown go away. ; It really seemed like a quick overlay over the Mickey's Birthday Town (or whatever it was called).

I predict ToonTown will come back too, and I agree with your timeline and it most likely will be a much better thought out design

I hope so... ; Has anyone seen an official date for the closing of ToonTown? ; All I could find was "early 2010." ; Since I don't have a single photo of ToonTown[nb]excluding the train station[/nb] I'm trying to fit in a trip in early January so I can get some photos.

Disneyland operated for 38 years without a ToonTown and Magic Kingdom made it 17 years without a ToonTown. I never heard any complaints about no areas for kids. The whole park is for kids and families. The "little" coasters they have are ok I guess if your kid absolutely needs a coaster but beyond that it's just a meet and greet area.

DCA added Flick's Fun Fair which is the same sort of thing; not not much more than carnival rides. It's certainly a possibility they may bring ToonTown back, but I don't think they need too. The new meets and greets are a plus to what ToonTown has been.

For me Fantasyland has always been the place for the little ones and ToonTown seems redundant. ;

If they do bring it back they do not need to go across the tracks. There is plenty of space to the North of Fantasyland which was planned for future expansion but has never been used. On show #41 of Imagineering My Way I read an interview with Dick Nunis and he talk about a time when they wanted to build a Matterhorn back there over the train tracks with the trains going through it into a snowing ice cavern.
