I finally got to put the Nikon D500 to its intended use during a preseason AHL game last weekend. The camera paired with a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII lens worked flawlessly. The higher frames per second (10 to be exact) helped me to capture images like this one.

Season opener for the Syracuse Crunch is tomorrow night and I'll be shooting hockey until next April and hopefully beyond!
 
I've been listening to the Petapixel podcast and Sharky James constantly raves about his D500. I know I'll end up with one, it's just a matter of when.

Oh, and tonight is opening night in Indy.
 
You would not be disappointed @ddindy It is a marvel. ISO is good up to 6400 for the sports work I do. For prints, Lightroom easily fixes what noise there is. I am only using this camera for high speed sports photography. The D750 is for everything else. I am sure it is also a good all around camera, too. I just do not need it to be.

Crunch open the season tomorrow night.
 
@Scottwdw I rented a D500 for the Reading air show, and was impressed with the speed. I wasn't impress with choosing a focus spot, but I think that's just a matter of the learning curve. Of course, when I look at it, it's not just $2k for the camera, it's new memory cards, a new battery grip, etc. I'm almost tempted to rent one again for my December WDW trip.

Indy Fuel won their opener over the Cincinnati Cyclones 3-1. The team looked good. Let's hope it holds up for the rest of the season.
 
Unless you love the convenience, a battery grip is not necessary. I just buy extra batteries. Much cheaper. Nikon's battery grips are nice but overly priced. I refuse to pay it. Got a third party one for the D750 but it works sometimes and sometimes not so I ditched it.

All the new focus modes is a learning curve. For hockey, I use D25 and AF-C.

nice work Scott. unless I need wider angel or real high ISO I prefer the d500 over the d750. for bifs I use autogroup and it locks so fast.one hell of a camera and with the 200-500 it is great for a walk around combo for wildlife
