I've reserved a lens from LensRentals.com for the first time (a Nikon 80-400 to use at the Indy MotoGP race at the end of August).

A question for those who've used LensRentals before: ; When the lens arrives, will someone have to sign for it or will they just leave it on the porch like all of the other packages that are delivered while I'm at work?

They should require a signature. ; One of the reasons I have them ship to my office instead.
 
Remember that lens is not AF-S and will focus slower than what you may be used to. ; You are going to love the 600mm (on cropped sensor) and the bokeh at f/5.6. ; The lens needs plenty of light so I hope you get a nice bright sunny day to work with. ; You will want to set the Limiter to ON to cut down on the focus time. ;

I've used the lens in continuous focus mode for birds in flight. ; Not sure how it would handle cars going 200mph. ; :) ; Oh, and start lifting weights. ; It's a heavy sucker even on a tri- or monopod.
 
Thanks for the tips, Scott. ; I used a 70-200 handheld last month at an air show and my arm was sore afterwards. ; I was already planning on using the monopod at the motorcycle race.

It's really too bad that the best photo spots at Indy are at the opposite end of the infield from where I always have to park.
 
It's not until you start walking around at that place that you realize how huge it really is! When we went to the F1 races there, we parked in a mobile home community right across from the gates. Expensive, but worth it after a long hot day walking around.

You were lucky, Erich. ; I have to drive 30 miles across town to get there. ; The plus side is I get to sleep in my own bed. ; ;D

The one time I visited Daytona, it seemed smaller to me. ; I believe that's because you can see the whole track from the stands, whereas at Indy there are buildings and trees in the infield that prevent you from seeing the whole thing.

That said, there's nothing like sitting in the stands at Indy in turn 1 or 3 looking down that long, long straight.
