i made another trip in august to the ny airshow. this year there were no ceiling issues and the show went off pretty much on time, the full show, including the full altitude thunderbirds show. with pretty good weather, the whole show was over and i was in my car heading out at 3:20. it actually shot down my supper in a diner plans, i was home by 7:15. so i will be occasionally adding to this thread was i process and upload, i didn't get any done until recently since i was busy and it was too hot for awhile. but i am taking advantage of this rainy day to cull and process, the 8500 or so shots i took.
 
ok, i finally have some content to show, first up, the army lakota helicopter taking the black knights, the parachute team from west point up to altitude for the opening flag jump

and here they come, that's another aerobatic performer above them, i'm guessing the smoke trail is to help spectators find the jumpers in the sky

i'll be adding content for awhile, i started with about 8600 to cull, down to around 5500 and have the first 50 keepers up on smug mug
 
ok, from the american airpower museum, at the old republic airfield in bethpage ny, the p-43 the jacky c, doing a few flybys. man airshows are more time-consuming to process than anything else i have currently shot.

f-16 viper demo team LETHAL STRIKE. i have the program from the show, where i am getting much of my information from, but my ocd self is annoyed that the articles are not in order of appearance. although for some reason they also did not stick to the listed show order, the viper performed ahead of the b-25. this was one of the first passes, love that i caught the air turbulence/heat waves off the engine

next up, heritage flight, with different aircraft than last year, the viper and a p-51 mustang. for some reason the program is light on mustang information, i can't tell you where this one came from, maybe someone on here more knowledgeable about vintage aircraft can. the first one is a little fuzzy, hard to get the settings right, should have exposed for the mustang and let the viper be what it is. ok a little research, this is a composite of 3 aircraft, apparently privately owned, named bald eagle, not much else on first search

Loving the photos, but that P-43 looks more like a P-40. My search for the Mustaing only turned up more photos of the same plane. Normally a search for the registration number (NL51JB, which I foiund on another photo) will provide the details of the owner, but the FAA web site expects a number after the N. The NL prefix was discontinued after 1948, so whoever owns it must have an exemption.
 
i thought when i saw it p-40, but it seems labeled as a p-43 on the museum website. i'll look a little deeper when i get a chance
 
ok, so i am trying to finish up this show, so i can get onto pixelmania, which i need to make some progress on, since michael and i have a 2 day charter on the western maryland in early feb, and possibly some other stuff to follow that. so the first up ia a ground photo, of larry labriola in his L-39. a little sparse on info in the program, but apparently this is a trainer, ground support, general all around basic jet that you can buy as a civilian, still in use by some 3rd world militaries.

so we come to the stars of the show, the us airforce thunderbirds, and this year i got the full altitude show, loud, fast, impressive pr tool by the air force, i am sure the blue angels are the same.
