Never had the pleasure of Kraken, and won't have a chance when I visit next year sadly. ; Hopefully next years trip is just the first of many to be had and hopefully they will happen with a lot more frequency in the years to come as well. ; I have still got lots to learn but you really do learn a lot from your mistakes :) ; and I seem to have plenty of those.. lol
 
Nice pictures!
I really like the color and lighting on pic 1. ; The sign just pops even though it’s very simple.
I like the misty falls in pic 3 and nice composition. ; Love turquoise green water.
I love the track tangle on pic 8, but – IMO – getting a train in there would make it better.
Pic 9 has a great shot of a mostly loaded train. ; People often ask me about my pictures of roller coasters, “Who’s in that shot?â€Â

You're welcome, but since I only joined this group last month too, I worry about comments like "... and when I hear it from this community I tend to trust it." I may be reading too much into this, but I certainly don't feel like I speak for the TMIP community! :o ; (maybe in another month or two ; ;) )

Just out of curiosity and my own improvement, my eye leads me to believe that picture one was taken at an angle with the sun to your left - possibly on an angle to the sign equal to your own - giving a good pop to the letters and a nice blue sky in your background. ; Were you using a polarized lense?
My limited experience would lead me to guess that if you shot that entrance sign straight on with the sun on an angle of less than 90degrees the background sky would wash out more as the sun lined up straight behind you.

As for my opinion about the rollercoaster, some coaster enthusiasts geek out over track layouts. ; I find them fun and exciting too, but people always give us scale and connection to roller coasters. ;
I initially wrote "connection to mechanical things" but I don't think you necessarily need people in shots of buildings, cars, trains and planes. ; I can't put my finger on why just now, but empty tracks seem lonely and empty roller coaster trains seem lonely too. ; You (I) don't need to see people on a car or train, but I can't tell you why. ; It could be that since coaster trains are open and other vehicles are closed, we (I) don't feel the challenge it being taken if the coaster tracks or train are not filled. ; We often don't see drivers when we see trains, planes and cars out in the world because they are enclosed so it doesn't strike us as odd when we can't see them in a picture - we simply assume they are there. ; If we could see one of these vehicles in motion and we could see that there was no one inside, then we might find that as odd as an empty coaster on a track.

Don't forget to have fun when you're out taking pictures!

You would be correct in your assumption of angle. ; I was also using a polarized lens for the majority of of the shots as well. ; To be honest, it was not a result of planning on my part - just one of those in the right place at the right time kinda deals.

Others have taken pictures of cars in this Canadas Wonderland 2012-8 section of track and maybe it is just personal preference, but I like the shot without a train better. ; When there is a train in there it just consumes so much of the shot and imho blocks out the track. ; For that shot I really wanted the subject to be the layout itself. ; In most cases I would have to agree with you though, the train completes the shot.

Funny you should mention this, as when I got home from my last walk through the Wonderland it had felt a little chore-like. ; I think a major detour on the way home was a major contributor to this, and the fact that I did not return with any shots that I felt were stand out.

I will be adding a couple pics from my visit shortly, unfortunately the best one with a train in it has someone giving me the finger at about 70mph so it has been removed from contention. ; :(
 
I've been looking at these, is this park kind of northwesr of toronto, near a city reservoir that has a campgrounf around it? We camped there for a few days back in the mid 90's and i distinctly remember some kind of an amusement park, just the other side of some major rail line wirh a lot of freight traffic, cn i believe
 
^^ Canada's Wonderland is located in Vaughan which is just north of Toronto, about a 20-30 min drive from where I live which is just west of TO. ; Don't think it was wonderland you were at if you saw a city reservoir (you are talking about the elevated tower kind, correct?). ; Wonderland also has no camping as the park is surrounded by homes and highways.

Now I am trying to think of which other parks there are in that direction. ; How far a drive from Toronto do you think it was, or how far from any place in Ontario you might remember. ; Now you have made me curious where it was - Wasaga Beach perhaps? ;

no, we were camped at a campground run by the city water authority, around an actual body of water, an artificial lake, and we could see some sort of theme/amusement park on the other side of the railroad tracks. ; i remember we drove to the yorkdale subway stop to use transit to get downtown
found it
indian line campground, finch road, brampton
and a little mapquest searching and i figured out it was wild kingdom water park i was seeing
 
I think the castle picture is very awesome. ; The drama of HDR really plays well with the angle with which you took the shot.

If I might ask, what is it that will have you coming to our little neck of the woods? ; Perhaps a certain something that was installed this year? ; Either Way, I would strongly recommend that you purchase a fast lane ticket for the day if you plan on hitting any of the main attractions more than once. ; I used one earlier this year on one of my ride riding days and it was the first time in years that I was really able to enjoy the park at fun pace with my friends with no regard for the massive crowds the park. ; Costs more, but worth it for sure.

Have not been back in a few weeks, though I did grab a video of the 2012 Starlight spectacular show - just need to get some kind of video editor installed to clean up the start and finish a tad before I post it.
