It's Friday, so we're all doing a Happy Dance.

Are you sick of not being able to get a shot of the Partners statue without the usual gaggle of tourists posing for their "I wuz heer" photo? ; Me too. ; So I decided to put my camera on a monopod and hold it way up in the air. ; It's not as easy as it sounds - it took me several tries to get a shot that was pointed right at the castle and was relatively straight. ; A short focal length definitely helped here.

Very cool idea, Dennis. ; Remind me to try something like that one.

Hockey, great capture of Peter Pan. ; Very difficult attraction to photo but you got a nice keeper.

It is a cool idea - haven't tried that at Disney before, though I have used the camera-on-a-stick method for other overhead shots...definitely one where a tilting LCD and live view came in handy to still be able to easily frame the shot.


If you try it Tim, you should give it a go with the NEX6 - you can hoist the camera up on the monopod or tripod, and use your smartphone remote to view, frame, and trigger the shot!

Another nice shot, Mike.

I bought an extension cable for my remote release, to make it easier. ; I used the self timer the first time I tried the monopod technique, but after each shot I'd have to lower the camera and re-trigger it. ; With the cable I can take several shots before my arms get tired.

Scott Kelby uses Pocket Wizards to trip the shutter of a camera mounted on a monopod held overhead.

HyperShop has something called HyperDrive iUSBportCAMERA that has an app for Canon and Nikon dSLRs that lets you focus, adjust settings and trip the shutter. ; I might get this to try out.
