Ritz Camera Files for Bankruptcy

Ritz Camera filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection today. Among the largest creditors are Nikon ($26.6 million) and Canon ($13.7 million)

And with them comes the only location that I know of that allows you to buy an "anything goes" service policy where they'll replace a broken camera/lens even if you were negligent (i.e. dropped it)
 
it does include all divisions.
I read the article on bloomberg. they are saying that high oil prices last year really damaged their boaters world division, and that digital photography has really hurt their high profit photo finishing dept.
 
The worst thing is that Nikon UK recently did a second wave of price increases; I think that this will be causing Nikon USA to follow shortly as well.

Not just Nikon, Canon and Sigma as well
 
i have found in recent liquidation sales the prices get jacked way up to offset the "huge savings" so you are not always getting a good deal. *COUGH! (circuit city) *COUGH!

also be sure to ask if the warrant will be honored once you get the item home and find it to be broken, etc., and check for return policies/exchanges.

Well, considering that I believe Ritz sells the stuff at the brick and mortars at MSRP, they won't be able to raise the price above that. The Circuit City stuff seemed to happen with stuff that was well below MSRP, and the liquidators went back to MSRP to start.

Also, yes the exchange period will be gone, but if rumors are correct about certain models no longer being made....it may be a good chance to pick one up.

Ok, maybe they are in bankruptcy because they couldn't alphabetize by state?! :o

Looks like all three in my area are going down! I've got one less than a mile from my house (where I usually do my larger prints)...another about 6 miles away, and another 10 miles away in the next town. They're all on that list.
