So, what have you bought because of Pixelmania?

OK, so Pixelmania is getting close. And of course, we all need some sort of excuse (any will do actually) to buy new gear. So what do you have that's new that you'll be bringing to Pixelmania?

I just ordered a Tiffen variable ND filter and Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 lens.

2 more 32 gb flash cards and the canon cable release with the timer function, for fireworks shows
 
I am being cheap on the camera side as all I purchased was new heads for my monopod and gorilla pod that are compatible with my quick change pistol grip head. Now I can leave the plate on the entire time. ; Most of my money for this trip was outfitting my iPad for use at the resort. So...

Well, I bought a new camera myself...waiting for it to arrive tomorrow or Friday! ; I wish I could have played with it at Pixelmania, but it'll get its trial-by-fire on my 2 week cruise.

After some heavy thinking on the A77, I decided OVFs and the 16MP sensor were still best for me, and since I love my A550 I decided to pick up an A580. ; Gives me that 16MP sensor, the multistack ISO, a few additional controls, better battery life (amazing considering how long the A550 goes), more focus points, more cross points...but with all the same ergonomics I already am used to. ; The A77 doesn't look like it will be a high-ISO tuned machine - more tuned towards landscape/portrait/daytime sports - I do too much high ISO. ; I'm still very interested in the A77, and will watch how it evolves and what updates and firmware do to it - the speed and focus systems look amazing!

a ha.... possibly Sony's last OVF camera. ; Which is okay, Nikon basically has stated it is the future too...something about phase detect on sensor with the Nikon 1. ; Sony is working on it as well but the new E-mount adapter will bridge the gap until that day arrives...

Personally I will probably go mirrorless next time I change bodies. ; Haven't decided yet.
 
I haven't added any new gear specifically for Pixelmania, but I do have a LEE filter holder, monopod and GPS that were purchased for trips this past Winter and Spring that will be making their first trip to WDW along with the 200-400.

At the last rocket launch I was next to a guy with a 200-400 on a 1.4x converter. Veeery nice.

Yep - so far, the newest latest greatest EVF looks like an amazing evolution from that of the A55, and EVFs have obvious advantages in some key areas, but still a few disadvantages that happen to dig right into my primary photography...so I'll give OVF one more go, and see how the next evolution of EVF comes along - they need to tackle the stagger during burst shooting (getting better) and battery life (still low).

I generally get a new camera every year to 2 years, so no problems there for me - if and when the next greatest thing debuts, I'll be ready to jump aboard!

I'm already there with the mirrorless. ; They're lots of fun, amazingly capable, IQ is a dead-heat, and certainly the segment will grow tremendously. ; As basic cameras, light duty or average shooter cams, and second bodies, they're amazing. ; As an only-camera for a professional shooter or heavy photo hobbyist, they're not ready for replcing the DSLRs - long way to go for that! ; But my mirrorless will be right alongside the A580 on my next trip, and sometimes taking its place, when I need to travel lighter.
 
I haven't bought anything specific for Pixelmania, but I'm bringing a new monopod, a new 50 1.4 and a 70-200 2.8, all of which I've bought since last December.

I've also been accumulating memory cards, since I'll have 8 1/2 days in the parks and no way to transfer them. ; Do you think 120 Gb is enough? ; (I think that's enough for roughly 12,000 raw exposures.)

Does B&H sell time? ; You are gonna need some serious time to go through 12,000 images! ; Wow.

I only bought a 10-24mm lens back in May, so it was not for Pixelmania since at that time I was not going to be able to attend. ; But I am sure I will be using it a ton in just about 3 weeks!
 
And people thought I was crazy to bring a 300 f/2.8 to the parks.... 200-400 f/4 trumps that a bit.... lol

We'll see how it goes... I have a couple of shots I want to try with it. ; I might decide it's crazy myself by the end of the trip.
 
The whole day I schlepped around my 300 2.8 I regretted it. Until I saw the shots I got on my commuter monitor. :-)

A couple of weeks ago I finally bought myself a Gorillapod SLR Zoom with ballhead. I gotta say, I'm impressed with both the GP and the ballhead, and I can't wait to use it for some of my favorite night shots at WDW.

The hard part is figuring out how to carry it around with me...
