It's been purported to be either Steve Jobs or Steve Wozniak but nothing definitive has ever surfaced. ;

I always thought it was Jobs, but as you said, I never head anything concrete.

I think the "official line" is that it is an amalgam of anyone and everyone who tinkered with electronics in the early days of home computing.
