Spin a basketball

Got a shot of a player spinning a basketball on his finger. ; Unfortunately I had the shutter speed set so the ball did not appear to be spinning. ; The pic would look a lot better if the ball appeared to have some motion. ; Anyone know how to make the ball appear as if it is spinning by using photoshop? ; I tried using the rotation blur filter but the rotational axis of the ball is perpendicular to the floor unlike the wheels on a car where the axis is parallel to the ground.
 
Thanks Roger. ; Not sure that will work because I need for the ball to spin into the background. ; Just had an idea. ; Since the ball needs to spin horizontal to the floor, would just plan old motion blur work? ; Did I say the ball was spinning on the top of his finger? ; Or, how about using a displacement map of blur onto the ball?
