A fast lens for sure. ; I think the D50 will autofocus on the old 50/1.8D but the new 35/1.8G DX or 50/1.8G lenses aren't that expensive and are a great start.
Don't be afraid to use manual focus - the shots inside some of the larger tanks are very low in contrast
Don't use a flash, it'll just bounce off the glass. ; I prefer shutter priority but you may have to shoot in manual depending on how high you want to go with ISO, you'll need at least 800 unless it's a very brightly lit tank (and those are usually very small)
also get a rubber lens hood, they are cheap, and allow you to get right up against the glass, avoiding reflection, and cutting down on some of the glass snot
