The day the music died

This week on Flickr, I'm posting photos of the four groups who are being canned at the end of the 2014 fiscal year. I decided to open up a thread for all of you to post your favorite memories and photos of Spirit of America, MoRockin', Off Kilter and (not really musicians but still losing their jobs) the World Showcase Players.

I'm starting off with a little patriotic flair for Labor Day. Too bad these folks won't be laboring for Disney much longer.

Spirited away

Why would we want to pay tribute to this great country who makes all of this possible? Still baffles the mind.

that's a great picture Dennis. I cant believe they wont be there anymore. It is impossible not to stop and watch them and feel proud to be an American.

Lest we not forget that it is not only music that is going away...

But here are a few of my favorites of the music over the past few years...

Thanks, Craig.

Nice set, Red. You'll notice that I did include the World Showcase Players in my initial post. I'll have a photo of them tomorrow.

Speaking of nice sets... (Sorry.) (No, not really.)

No mo' rockin'

Continuing my clockwise farewell walk around World Showcase, we come to the World Showcase Players. A few days before Pixelmania 2013 I found them performing their own version of Dickens' Christmas Carol.

I will miss their "sets!"

I think this is what I will miss most! I was "cast" on 3 different occasions and always enjoyed the humor of their shows!

I would have loved to have seen "Christmas Carol". Aside from "King Arthur and the Holy Grail", "Romeo and Edna" was a hoot. I was thinking there was another story they did as well but can't remember what it was.

Years back they did Cyranose (no clue of spelling on that one!) but in France. This goes back to either '99 or '00 as it was before my daughter was born.

Last but not least, our favorite band. For their sake, I hope the job offers come pouring in. I understand that Jamie's a firefighter (what is it about bagpipes and firefighters, anyway?), so at least he's got a steady job.

Off Kilter not on

Yeah, I know it's not a great picture of the band, but it's one of the few that I have of the entire band. I have lots of ones and twos, and not surprisingly, very few of Scott who's always hidden behind the plexiglass.

It would be great if universal picked them up. Maybe they could be the band at the hogs head?

Just watched WDWToday's video of Off Kilters final performance. The people in front must have waited hours for it with as many were in video (hundreds!!)

All I can say is WOW! After watching Off Kilters final performance I found the World Showcase Players final performance from the 25th. Here is the video. If you don't want to watch the whole thing, at least watch the last few minutes after the official skit has concluded. I didn't realize that the show had been around in one form or another for 33 years. Amazing group of people.

Mo' Rockin... Looks like a few of the former Belly Dancers came out for the final performance then ended up on stage for the last song.

Spirit of America... Another touching speech towards the end.
