Testing out my new Tokina 11-16/2.8- I really need to work on my composition for wide shots. This one I kind of liked but a lot of them just looked like I needed to be closer. :-[

You have to think a little differently with ultra-wide-angle lenses (UWA). The review I did for Tim and the one on the boards here will give you better examples. For a scenic or large expanse, you want to try and get something interesting in the front, middle and backgrounds. For close-ups you have to watch for distortions (unless you want them) and try to use leading lines to give a sense of depth.

I had read that also on the front-middle-background. It really is a different shooting style I am trying to figure out. I am usually shooting on the tele side much more often.

I found a copy of the lens at B&H and bought it- and it turned out to be defective not autofocusing properly. I sent it back but they did not have another in stock to replace it with. I ended up finding one at Adray Camera from a link off Tokina's website. Then Adray called me the next day and said their website was wrong they did not have it in stock- but would have one in two days if I could wait. They were super nice folks and they followed up with an email when it came in and express shipped it to me. I had never heard of them before but they were great to deal with- and the new lens confirmed my suspicion that the previous one was bad. It focuses very quickly and accurately.
