Whale watching out of Gustavus, Alaska

If seeing a whale breech is considered the "home run" of whale watching, then what we witnessed this day was the equivalent of the Major League All Star Game home run derby. ; The conditions were less than great. ; The fog was so heavy that sometimes the only way we knew that a whale had breached was when we heard it hit the water, making a sound almost like thunder. ; We saw and heard dozens of breaches. ; I was lucky enough to get some of them with the camera.

You are making me so anxious for my possible Alaskan Cruise next year. ; These shots are AMAZING!

These fishermen were setting still in the water when this whale surfaced right next to their boat. ; They were probably thinking that they didn't bring large enough tackle.

I agree with Tim. ; Never got that close during my one time whale-watching off New England.

Gotta love those humpbacks.

Fantastic shots! ; It's all about being in the right place with these migratory whales.
