Time to change your clock

Stop whatever you're doing and go grab your camera. ; Daylight Saving Time is now in effect, so you may need to change your clock.

I've forgotten to change my cameras' clocks in the past. ; As a result, I've learned how to use EXIFTool and EXIFToolGUI to adjust the time after the fact.
 
I love DST in the spring when i am working overnight. ; 2am becomes 3am like magic!
it does stink if your number gets called in the fall though...
 
Ha...nice timing Craig. ; I never saw this the first time. ; Just for fun, my P&S is with me all the time, even at work - so I turned it on to check, and it was set to 11:40am. ; It's 12:40pm now. ; Guess who never changed the time. ; I'll put money on the DSLR being wrong too. ; :)

You're quite welcome. ; In my previous job, I had to go around and change the clocks on all of our computer and network equipment that didn't automatically do so. ; While it was on my mind, I got into the habit of sending out an email to everyone with a list of things that might need to be changed around the house.

Plus it's a good way to remind myself! ; ;D
 
Well, it happened again, I forgot to change the clocks in my cameras. ; In the process of fixing the time in my photos, I found that there's a new link for EXIFToolGUI.
 
Even more important, fireman gary insists that you all change the batteries in both your smoke detectors and co alarm
Go, go do it now, nothing more tragic than finding smoke detectors with dead batteries during scene overhaul, especially if body recovery is part the overhaul
 
Gary, i wish you would have told my neighbor that. ; His smoke alarm chirped the "low battery" song every minute from 10pm to 8am this past monday. ; And as for working an hour less... My old job made us clock out five minutes prior to the time change, back in five minutes after... And then work til 9am instead of the usual 8am to make up the hour lost.

This is probably the most useful dead thread I have ever seen. ; It helped me last year...sure enough, I have updated the clock on my mirrorless camera but not my DSLR - now before I go shooting tomorrow, I have a reminder to fix that. ; I'm expecting another dead-thread revival of this in about 8 months. ; ;)
 
I would check your camera clock, John. I believe the DST setting on Nikon cameras did not change the time placed in the Exif data. ; I have to change mine every Spring and Fall. ;
 
In changing my NEX's time setting, I noticed it actually does have a DST setting - but I had it turned off. ; I suppose if the firmware is very recent, it would be on the 'new' revised DST schedule of the past year or two, but if it is a little older (the firmware, not the camera), the DST setting might still be on the old traditional DST times. ; That's actually why I never bothered to turn it on!
 
Scott, was that on your D70 or the D700? On my D90 it correctly puts the DST time in the EXIF. Maybe it was a bug?
